What is the difference between a Nikon D40 & a D40X?

Yeah, thats practically the question ^. Both cameras seem to have no difference. Is there really a difference?

Differences? There's a few.

D40 = 6mp, D40x = 10mp (higher resolution sensor)
D40 = 2.5fps, D40x = 3.0fps (faster rapid shooting rate)
D40 = ISO 200, D40x = ISO 100 (lower ISO for clearer photos)

Here's a full 28 page review with comparisons between the two models.

Yes, the D40 & D40x have been replaced and surpassed by new models with impressive features. But the fact that they're a few years old (2006 & 2007), doesn't make them ancient. They are still capable of excellent photo in the hands of an intelligent and well-trained photographer. By the way, I, and quite a few other professional photographers make our livings with cameras like the Nikon D300, also introduced in 2007. Here's what I was able to do lately with my ancient machine.

Look at these 22 million D40x photos as some inspiration.

Remember, the camera you buy today is "outdated" the moment another model comes out. So are most of the cars we drive.

Sure the D40 will take great photos but it is feature poor compared with many other cameras and won't take older lenses, not that Ken is bothered as I'm sure that he has all the new type lenses that he needs. The same argument applies to it's 10MP sibling the D40X except that it comes with more resolution (on very good lenses) and more noise. They also do not have exposure or white balance bracketing or depth of field prieview.
