What does the sic stand for on a 50mm lens?
I'm looking at two lens for my Nikon D5000.both 50mm f1.4 One is f/1.4 D AF after it and the other has 1.4G SIC SW prime I don't understand the differance. Went to my local "camera shop" to buy and they gave me information i knew was bad so now i'm looking on line for a good 50mm f1.4 but need to know what the rest of the information means after the 1.4.
SIC -- Super Integrated Coating, a multi-layer flare reduction coating, usually applied to the more complex zoom lenses.
The D means it has a physical aperture ring. G means you control aperture by buttons on the camera. SIC is the lens coating.
It sort of a moot point though, only the AF-S 50mm will autofocus on your D5000.
Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC).
Just more marketing.
A Nikon AF 50 mm f/1.4 lens the same whether the seller wants to add things like SIC and Prime to their ad copy is up to them.
You do need to know is that in order to use the auto-focus feature you need to be looking at the AF-S 50 mm f/1.4 G lens.
The main difference is that the AFS 50mm f/1.4G DOES autofocus with the D5000, while the AF 50mm f/1.4D doesn't. This is because the D5000 lacks an autofocusing 'screw' motor inside the body, so the lens will need to have a motor built in for it to autofocus.
