What a nikkor 35 f/1.8 lens be a good candidate for portrait/quincenera photography?
Note: The camera I work with is a nikon d3000, and I was thinking about avoiding a flash unit and bumping up the ISO then I realized that my ISO doesn't go as high as other professional cameras.
If I wanted to capture some good photos like lets say in a church, what would be a great exposure? Would my nikkor 35mm f/1.8 be sufficient for good portrait in a quincenera event? I also have the basic kit lens, 18-55, a 55-200, and my favorite prime 35mm f/1.8 lens.
Please I need someone's feedback.
A 35mm lens is really too wide for portraits, even on the D3000's cropped sensor. I would personally choose an 85mm f/1.8 prime at the bare minimum for that event. The 50mm f/1.8 prime would be okay, too.
Your exposure settings will depend on the lighting conditions in the church and the effects you're trying to achieve with your pictures. It's impossible to tell you what a great setting would be because there are so many variables involved.
BTW, the D3000 is not a professional camera. It's a basic entry-level DSLR.
