So i have a nikon d3100 with the kit lens and i'm interested in landscape photography, well my boyfriend and i were in gatlinburg, tn this week and i went into a camera shop to buy a lens hood and the man working there started telling me about a lens which is a Bower.45x professional high speed auto focus deluxe super wide angle lens WITH macro. He sold it to us for $275. I didn't do my research until today and i'm finding them online for $50 to $60. I think we were ripped off and the receipt says no refunds. Here's some pictures of it.

Yeah, you got ripped off. Sorry! No returns policy is because the shop knew exactly what it was doing. You could stomp and make noise and go to the BBB. You might get some help. I suspect that if you look up the camera shop there are other problems too.
That's a pretty standard pitch for those things. They look for people with entry level DSLR's and then part of the pitch will be that it is f/0 or f/1… $50 to $60 is really high for it too. It's a filter and a low quality one at best.

I didn't understand anything you said, but you were ripped off if you payed $275 for something worth $60. Your boyfriend should kick the guy who sold you the camera 's ***.

Consider it lesson learned. You did NOT get ripped off. You just paid more than you should have because of an impulse purchase. Happens day in day out to most of us. You failed to do the research. You were sold something you did not need. You don't know enough about the art and the equipment. You are in the same class with 99% of the other "photographers" out there.

You fell for a description like that? I don't know what consumer protection law there's in your state but as you were lied to you might have some hope of redress. It is not a picture taking lense but must be attached to one in order to function. It has no qualities independent of the lense it is used on so it is not autofocus, not high speed, 'deluxe' is meaningless and there isn't as professional alive that would use such a piece of rubbish. The store owner is responsible for what he sells and if he does so deshonestly, and this one did, then surely some law has been broken,
I don't think 'Japan' means it is made in Japan either. It will be made in China.

Go back and bawl your eyes out and ask for at least $175 refund.tell him its shameful that he would take advantage of people in this economy. If he doesn't budge tell him you will give him bad publicity and try to involve local media in exposing him

That is just a filter, you might have purchased a lens for that price. What a rip off! I would plaster his name across the net (and photo) if he doesn't refund or exchange for you!

Caveat emptor - "Let the buyer beware."

You should definitely report that camera shop to the local Better Business Bureau. Call the local newspaper and tell them about how you were taken advantage of/ripped off. Call the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce. Then call the camera shop and insist on speaking with the manager or owner. Be polite but firm and tell the manager/owner you've called the BBB, Chamber of Commerce and the newspaper. Insist on a full refund.

DO NOT preface your demand for a full refund with "If you don't then I will do this, this and this… ". Make the calls first, write down the names of everyone you talked to and then call the shop. Saying "I spoke to Susie Smith with the BBB and… " and "I spoke to Jimmy Jones with the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and… " and "I spoke to Sally Owings with The Mountain Press and… " will let the manager/owner you're serious.

Gatlinburg is 90% dependent on the tourist trade and in this down economy bad publicity about a local business is something it can't afford.

He figured you have a Nikon… So you must be foolish to pay for an over-rated camera, must have money to waste on a cheap lense too!

Ooops, did I say that out loud? My bad! Always do your research and never be naive!

That sounds like a wide-angle converter for a video camera, not for a SLR. Sorry, can't open your links. But you will know next time not to part with large sums of money without being much more certain about comparative pricing and possible uses. You wanted a lens hood (say $15) and walked out with a very expensive piece of glassware?
