Using nikon D5100 to shoot photos in stage shows?
Can any one help out in using nikon D5100 to shoot photos in stage shows like keeping the aperture maximum and changing the shutter speed by increasing the ISO speed.
Set your camera on "A" (aperture priority) then dial it down to the lowest number will keep your maximum lens aperture. But there are so many other variables when shooting a stage show… Try changing your metering to 'spot' or 'partial' to read the light hitting the performer. From there you'll have to determine the right ISO and shutter speed. Oh and when the lighting changes, you'll have to do it again
I recommend that you use shutter-speed priority @ 1/250 sec. The camera will set the aperture. Use the lowest ISO possible while still maintaining 1/250 sec.exposures.
Keep it on P auto (flash off) and you should get useable results, the camera will default to shutter priority in low light situations.
Or use the following formula and it has worked for 40 years for me.
Basic manual settings: ISO 100 shutter 1/60th aperture f4. This is exposure value 10
therefore ISO 200 = 1/60th @ f5.6 or 1/125 @ f4 same exposure value
ISO 400 1/125 @ f5.6 Same exposure value of EV10
Dark scenes come out looking dark, bright scenes come out looking light
PROBLEM. Modern zooms can lose upto a stop when used at full length.
