Use a Nikon D1500 as a Mac webcam?

Is there anyway I can use my Nikon D5100 as a Webcam for my Mac for video chat or recording game plays? I want to save my self some money from buying an actual webcam. Or should I record microphone and screen separately from camera and then edit it all together and sync the mic audio with the camera video.

Although dSLRs and webcams seem to have the same structure being both cameras, they are entirely different from each other. A dSLR is a complete device by itself with its own computer to process the high resolution images that can be viewed on monitors and printed in equally high quality photographs. Webcams on the other are dumb add-on peripheral devices that connect to a computer for control and processing of low resolution images. The low quality is essential so that they would travel faster through the internet. A dSLR, if used as a webcam then, would be overkill.

Webcams are cheap. I bought mine for less than $10.
