Can anyone tell me if this lens should work on my Nikon D90 - I've just bought one for a few pounds on ebay and I keep getting the F-- error - I'm wondering if this lens is only for a film Nikon camera… Any help gratefully received, tried searching Google etc but no answers… Thanks again.

The lens is comparatively ancient, and the electronics in the lens are not communicating with the electronics in the camera. While it should technically work, you will find that many old, off-brand lenses will give you this problem. The control circuits were reverse engineered, and tend to only work with a specific set of cameras. Sigma and Tokina lenses will also have this problem.

You could attempt to get it "chipped" to newer standards, but that would probably cost you more than the lens is worth.
