I love taking pictures and I live in a little village and I'm on school holidays, I board so all my friends live far away and i don't have many local people anyway, I have just got a Nikon d3100 for christmas- which is amazing! But the only thing i really take pictures of is my dog and my ponies and i'm not really sure what else to take pictures of as I don't really have any people I can take pictures of, so any suggestions would be fab x

A camera like that could be used for taking pictures of the tiniest things too if you have suitable lens. Does not have to be big things, try getting pictures of the birds feeding, sun setting or rising.frost on surfaces making patterns depending on where you are of course.

I agree with the person who said yourself. Even if you don't like being the subject of things you should try it out. I would look at the work of well known photographers to help inspire you. For self portraiture inspiration, you should take a look at the work of francesca woodman!

Try photographing items items in your house you walk past everyday and usually don't take any interest in. It could be very interesting for others. Also use different angles and lighting you can practice while getting abstract photos.

-Sunsets, the moon and the sky in general
-Any animals or plants.Flowers, birds, squirrels, snakes.etc Even insects if you want to, like dragonflies, butterflies.etc

- Yourself, or family

- Water drops. Get a shallow bowl, fill it with water, get a dropper and squirt small drops of water. Use a fast shutter speed for this, and maybe boost the ISO or lower the aperture to get a good exposure.

- Strobe photography. Close the lights, mount your camera on something to stabilize it (holding will not work!) and put it on a long shutter speed. Grab a flash light, write/draw something in the air, and if the camera is still running, turn the light off and/or stand still.
