Suggest lens for my NIkon d3000?

I have a Nikon D3000.So far I have the kit lens, and just recently bought the 35mm f1.8. What lens should I get next? I pretty much only take pictures of my daughters, if that matters?

Only thing it has to have is autofocus.

That's all you need. Unless you are looking for a nice portrait lens? If you want excellent portraits get a telephoto lens. I'm warning you, they're big and expensive lol. I think your set up is pretty good so far though.

You don't need another… If all you are doing is portraits, why waste money on more lenses…

The best portrait lens is the AF-S 50 mm f/1.4 for your camera.

The last lens I would have purchased would be the 35 mm, especially if I was shooting portraits

The 35 mm on your camera is too wide to be used as a portrait lens and too long to shoot landscapes.

Buying lenses based upon popularity is never a good idea. You have to choose your lenses based upon the suitability of the lens for the purpose you intend to use it.

For instance the lenses I would choose for use on your D3000 are these:

AF-S 10-24 mm for landscapes
AF-S 60 mm f/2.8 macro for shooting closeups
AF-S 18-200 mm as a one lens solution

And for shooting portraits, AF-S 50 mm f/1.4

Notice that all the lenses are AF-S, the lens type that your entry level D3000 uses and can auto-focus. You will also notice that you will have to save your pennies to be able to budget for the lenses you want buying because a lens costs less than another one is another bad idea
