Selling my current equipment wondering what a good price is?
Ok so I have a Nikon D3200 I bought for $550, the 18-55 kit which sell for $100 new, a Sigma 70-300 F/4.5-5.6 DG OS which I bought for $200, and a Nikkor 35mm F/1.8 which I got for $200, plus a $100 camera bag. I want to sell it all fast so I can buy a Canon 7D which I find for around $700 but I'm not sure if that's a good price to sell my stuff for. I'm ok with spending a little for the 7D and a lens! So basically what would you guys be happy with spending my my current equipment? Thank you!
P.S. The Body only has about 1000 shots on it with probably half on the 18-55 kit lens and the other lenses probably all have about the same so about 250 or so each!
Why change? I'm only asking because all the signs are there that you are going in the wrong direction.
The Canon 7D is a solid camera, nice specification and it has proven reliability… The D3200 is a decent enough camera too, 1000 shutter actuations isn't really much especially for a 'newbie' to decide to make a switch… I don't think you have given the D3200 a chance… If you aren't getting decent images with your D3200 then it isn't the cameras fault and the 7D won't improve anything.
I use a D5100 a lot and it spits out some really impressive results, I enjoy using it though… And I have a D7000 and D7100 so my opinion isn't based on my bank balance.
I'd just make sure that you aren't making the switch for the wrong reasons… The 7D does offer some advantages over the D3200… I'm not sure that image quality is one of them.
Have a look on ebay, and see what similar equipment is going for
A rough rule of thumb is that if your equipment is in absolutely A1 condition with original boxes, manuals, leads, software etc then find the current new price and expect to sell for 50-75% of that. What you paid for it is largely irrelevant
You can buy a Nikon refurbished D3200 body off Amazon for $330 with a 12mth warranty
http://www.amazon.com/...009OAOG9S/
That is your competition and makes your camera body worth around $250. Another $250-350 for the lenses and $20 for the bag leaves you well short of the $700 price of the 7D you have found
Before you buy a 7D look at the 70D. Similar price but with Canon $150 cashback and a better spec until the 7D MkII is released later this year at a likely much higher price.
$700 for a 7D with a lens is too low - current Amazon price with lens is $1100. That must be a used price. If it is "new" it is a scam.
With a paltry 1000 actuations on the Nikon you may also want to ask yourself why you need to spend that sort of money on a camera that you never use.
D3200 is a great camera, I have taken nearer 10,000 photos and I would not upgrade at the moment, I'm still only getting used to it.
To get a good understanding of what to sell your gear, go to keh.com and see if you can find your exact model of camera or lens and at the same grade level.
You already have a huge investment in a Nikon camera and Nikon compatible lenses. Why are you changing? What perceived benefit do you get? Certainly not for a higher performing sensor (see below)
You have a find system right now. If you want to upgrade, buy a second camera body like the Nikon D7100 and keep using your current lenses. My guess is that you still have a lot to learn when it comes to learning the fundamentals of photography and learning how to use your camera intuitively.
If you think that buying a Canon 7D will automatically improve your images, you are mistaken. Better images require better technique using whatever camera you have in your hands. Study and experience are the only way to improve image quality.
