Problems charging my new Nikon D3000?

I just got my camera today and i've been charging the battery for 3 hours and the light still is blinking. It says that it only takes about 1 hour and 40 mins in the booklet it comes with.could the battery/charger already be broken? Or should i just wait and see if it charges in the morning. This is the first time i've charged this battery.

Yep, just read the manual and it does say all that.

Put the battery in the camera and see what the little charge-icon reports on the LCD.

First time charging? It takes longer. Leave it there overnight. The charger will shut off automatically.
