Charging a Nikon D70 camera with USB?

Kei

Today I bought a used Nikon D70 camera. The seller told me that the USB cord worked as a charger…
Is this true? Because I've had it plugged in and on for the last hour, and its still a dead battery.
Also, it didn't come with a manual, so that's why I'm asking.

The Seller is Full of S#@! Which the battery does NOT Charge Via USB Cord which needs a Wall Charger to Charge the Battery.

BTW: Here's the link for the Owners Manual

You don't have the Manual? No problem. Just download it from Nikon's website, here…

To answer your question… No, you NEED the charger.

In hindsight, you should have done your research BEFORE handing over your cash. You should have gone to Nikon's website to find out. Remember, knowledge is power. Had you done that, you could have calmly wrapped that USB cord tightly around the guy's neck when he tried to con you into thinking you didn't need a charger.

No.

USB simply doesn't provide enough power to charge a camera battery. It only works with low power things like mobile phones.

The D70's battery has to be taken out of the camera, then inserted to a wall charger to charge it. There's no other way. Plugging the camera to the USB port of a computer discharges the battery.

The other answers are totally correct. You were lied to because the seller didn't have the charger. That would make me suspect that the camera is stolen, as anyone who used it should/must have the Nikon external charger.

Nope. You can't charge it through USB.

You have to use a separate charger to charge the battery, with it removed from the camera.

Your seller lied.
