Pictures on my Nikon D3200 are saved in the wrong format?
Ok, well i got a nikon D3200 digital camera for Christmas and i recently went to Bali and took over 600 photos on it, but i must have accidentally played around with the settings or something because the photo's don't cone up on my laptop, they come up as (for example) DSC_1041.NEF and when i try to open the file it says "an error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error code: 0x800736b1.
I have also looked at the photos on my camera and there are a few that i can access because i took them before i stupidly messed around with the settings, and they say in the bottom right corner NORMAL 6016x4000, but on the ones i can't access they say RAW 6016x4000.
It has to be the raw setting thats preventing them form coming up, so is there any way to switch the setting on the camera? Or is it still possible to print the photos in this form? Preferably by not downloading a program that charges to convert them?
Please help i took a lot of tme taking these and i really with i could access them.
Added (1). Hey John, i fully understand what you mean and have learnt my lesson, but i'm 16 years old and got this camera 3 days before we went away, and i was hectically excited and didn't read the instructions, oops,
and Picture Taken, thank you for your help, i followed your instructions, but my camera is a bit different to how you were instructing me, but with your help i can convert them back, it does it one by one so it may take a while, but thakyou without you i would probably still be stuck.
The software that came with your camera should have the raw conversion program you need.
I'm not picking on you personally…
I just want to 'highlight' that this is why it's important to take some time and study the instruction manual… The instruction manual explains the settings that are available and gives you enough information for you to decide which setting is best for you. Cameras are 'tools' not 'toys' to be played around with…
Your problem can be sorted, and it's a perfect example of what can happen if you don't know or understand what you are doing…
I hope you get a satisfactory solution, and at least you'll know now not to mess around with the RAW and JPeg settings unless you have an actual need for the RAW files.
I'm not sure if the D3200 supports this, but on my camera…
Go to the Retouch menu
Select "NEF (RAW) processing"
Use the "?" button for help if you can't figure it out or…
Look up "NEF (RAW) processing" in the index of your owners manual.
You may be able to mark the entire batch of images and convert them all at once.
Your memory card might be almost full with 600 RAW files on it, so you might not be able to do the whole batch at once. You would have to some of them and then copy them to your computer hard drive and delete the ones you are done with from the SD card so that you have enough room to convert more images. BE CAREFUL if you need to delete images so you don't lose any files accidentally!
