Picture help big fail?

Hi thanks in advance i have a Nikon d3100 with a AF-S Nikkor 55-200 mm lens vr
i want to shoot a picture of the moon i tried already but it comes out all bright you can't see it just a bright orb any ideas how to get a great shot of the moon.

You are overexposing the photo. The light from the moon is directly reflected sunlight. It is very bright. Shorten your shutter speed until the photo is correctly exposed.

Adjust the brightness and darkness. It's the button with the +/- in a box change it to a low light and tada it should be better!

Well, your link doesn't work… Put the camera on a tripod and manual focus set to infinity. Set your exposure accordingly and away you go.

Use the sunny 16 rule as your first exposure setting.

It may be that you will have to reduce the exposure.

You do know, I hope, that the same sun falls on the moon as does the earth, so exposures of the moon will be very close to the exposure you use when shooting in bright sun

It's hard to imagine at first but the moon is lit by the sun so it is as bright as mid day on Earth. Set your camera to f8, ISO 200 and shoot at 1/500 sec You can also try 1/320 sec.
