I have included the new Pentax Kr the new sensor is better than anything at this price level for dynamic range and low noise threshold, look at the ISO rating.

Add to that the Pentax will have all the functions you will ever need, image stabilisation is built into the camera so any lens you fit (including any Pentax K mount lens made since 1973) will be image stabilised.

I would advise the Pentax Kr, faster frame rate (6fps) than the other two and the new sensor offers much better low light performance for not a lot more.

The auto-focus is a bit better on the Nikon (according to a couple of reviews I just read) and that matters in sports photography. I think you would like the dynamic area with AF-C for sports, also, and I don't think the Pentax offers any such combination. (This is what I generally use for sports on my D300.)

If you do get the Pentax, use Li-Ion or rechargeable batteries, as regular "AA" batteries only give about 200 shots before they die. The Nikon battery will give about 500.
