Nikon sb-400 on D40 with 18-200?

I have a Nikon d40 with 18-200mm vr. Will the SB-400 flash solve the shadow from the lens? It is a problem when taking closer pictures using the built in flash.

Do i understand you correctly that you have a problem with the lens being in the way of the popup flash if you're using it for close up shots, thus causing a shadow on the image?

The SB-400 will sit somewhat higher than the popup flash… But the more important aspect is that it has a swivel head and thus can be used to bounce. You could also use a self-made diffusor on top of it. That would solve the problem and also give you much better results than a direct flash.

I'd rather recommend the SB-600 or 700 though, unless small size is important. These are much better and more versatile.
