Nikon lens: 35mm f/1.8g?

I heard this DX lens is for general, walk around photography and due to the raving reviews, I'm considering getting it. Shoud I get this or the 50mm f/1.8g? I'm using a D3100 so there's a 1.5x crop factor on the focal lengths. If I do get the 35mm, should i sell my general photography kit lens 18-55?

Added (1). I would ONLY consider getting rid of the kit lens it I went with the 35mm. I would obviously keep it if I got the 50mm, too tight

Look at the number - 35. Now with your 18-55 zoom in to about 35mm and try to take a wide shot of a street, the house, anything. That's the focal length, the only focal length, you'll be stuck with.
Do the same with your lens at 50mm. Now try to take a wide shot - you can't because the focal length is too tight. Think about that before getting rid of the 18-55.

There's no reason to get rid of your 18-55mm if you get either of these other two lenses. I have a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens, and it shares my bag with a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8. The zoom gives you focal lengths that you'll miss if you only use a fixed prime lens. But the prime will give you better performance in lowlight as well as giving you beautiful bokeh in portraits.

BTW, I love my 35mm f/1.8.In the days of the 35mm SLR, a 50mm lens was considered the "normal", as it replicated the view seen by the human eye. On a crop-factor DX camera like your D3100, a 35mm lens gives you the effective view of 52mm, pretty close.

All and all this is a nice new lens that does replace the older 50mm 1.8. If you already have the older one I in not way would go out and sell it to upgrade to this one. I would much rather see you put that money into a different lens or a 1.4. If you are a pro you should look into the 1.4 for the build and image quality. If you are just starting out and can't afford the 1.4 this is a killer lens to go with.
