Nikon D7000 with 18-55mm lens?

Hi, I'm considering buying the Nikon D7000 to replace my old D60 and I'm considering just keeping my D60's nikkor 18-55mm lens and buying only the D7000's body. Are there any major disadvantages to doing this? I'm not a pro or anything so I don't need any crazy lenses; I just want to make sure the quality will be good.

The 18-55 will give you exactly the same quality on either camera. This is not a great lens but it's good. The technical quality of the 7000 is higher of course and this will show up in your photos.
The 18-55 will be fine.

However, if you want to improve your results, I'd recommend shopping around for a better lens.

There are fancier lenses, but the 18-55mm VR is not a bad one. It should work well.

Going from the D60 to the D7000 the extra 6MP can reveal a little more detail, but it can magnify any blurriness. Chromatic aberration in the 18-55mm VR is present but milder than the 18-105mm or 18-200mm. The D7000 can make it disappear.

I'd say it's like the initail set up for any camera user. After that it's just getting newer & better lense's, & filters of course

Your D60's 18~55mm should be the older version and if you are a go to buy the D7000, better buy it with the newer kit lens. If you plan to give the D60 to anyone, then he has no problem of buying a new lens.

But it seems to me that you are not ready for the D7000, better buy a new lens and play with your D60. The new AF-S 50MM F1.8 would be nice. Get a more advance body later.

Great idea. It's probably the same lens anyway.

The kit lens ( 18mm - 55mm) is actually really rather decent! ( unlike some of the competition) so you should be fine mate.
