Nikon D5100 18-55mm VR Lens?

If I want to shoot a subject about 50-70 ft away (my sister's graduation)
will the Nikon - D5100 18-55mm VR Lens be good enough if I'm trying to get a close up on her,
like when i zoom? Thanks in advance!
this is the lens that comes with the camera i can get another lens until the summer and my sisters grad is in two weeks
Added (1). Thank you guys!
& @ Hondo in some cases learning is better yes but why would I go buy the camera just to return it if it doesn't shoot far enough why not just ask someone who has had the lens… I mean THEY WOULD know they had it, so now that i got the answer i don't have to buy it just to find out it doesn't work and take it back, time saved! So thanks for trying to sound smart but no thanks.

No, it will not be enough.
you will need at least the 55-200mm lens, or better, 55-300mm lens

No, it will not be enough. You will need at least a 200mm. With the 50-70mm, you can set to 70mm with maximum megapixels then just crop in the computer. It would be much better if you were able to get close enough though.

Go outside. Have someone stand 70 feet away. Take their picture. See if your lens will work at that distance.
Never ask questions you can answer for yourself. Learning is better than asking.
