Nikon d5000 senior pictures?

Some people have asked me to do their senior pictures and basically I would just like to know is this a good camera for that and if so what lenses or lens would you recommend to use?

The D5000 will do senior pictures very well. I would suggest, for portraits, do get the Nikkor f1.4 (or f.1.8) 50mm fixed lens.
the kit lens should do adequately if you do not want to spend money.

The kit lens will work just fine. Just be sure you have good lighting when you do them.

Any camera would do but a dSLR with a 50mm f/1.8 (at least) would be better. If you already have the D5000 and the accompanying 18-55mm kit lens, that would suffice.
