Nikon D50 Shutter Actuation?

Apparently, it has 6814 shutter actuations left.

What exactly does that mean? And when it "runs out," is there a way to get more, or have it fixed or whatever? I've never had a camera like this before and I'm confused. So sorry if this is a stupid question.

There's no set number of shutter cycles for a dSLR camera. I have a much older Nikon D100 with over 220, 000 cycles on it.

under 7, 000 tells us that the camera was rarely used.

If the camera is in good shape and it works well, then if it is selling for a reasonable price, buy it and enjoy

Those numbers are "guesstimates" known as MTBF (mean time between failure). An entry level camera may say the average shutter life is 100, 000 to 150, 000 actuations where a "professional grade" camera may be 300, 000.

Some cameras fail before it gets to that number, and others go well beyond that. A lot of it depends on how well you take care of the camera and have a CLA (cleaning, lubrication.timing adjustment) done to it.

Use the camera until the shutter fails, then get the shutter replaced if you like the camera.

6, 814 shutter actuations left? Left from what number?

Most camera makers rate their dSLRs to around 100, 000 shutter actuations. There's no guarantee that the camera will reach that number. It may break down before that. There's no limit also if you reach that number. Many photographers boast about surpassing or even doubling that number.

In any case, if the shutter fails, you can always have Nikon replace it. That way you have 100, 000 new ways to worry about the next "failure".No. Whatever number was expressed in the EXIF data is number of actuations done not "left" to use. 6, 814 is pretty much low and practically new in my terms.
