Nikon D3100 lenses work on Nikon D7000?

My wife currently has the Nikon D3100 and is upgrading to the D7000. Would her current lenses work on the Nikon D7000?

Thank you

Added (1). That is so good to hear! She currently has the AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1.8G and AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G lens. So both of these will work on her new Nikon D7000? She takes pictures mostly of kids. Any suggestions for another lens that would be great for her use to surprise her with along with the new camera?

Yes, all of them will

That is what a camera system is all about. Interchangeability

Yes, the Nikon lenses your wife has will be fine on another cropped sensor Nikon body like the D7000.

However, in my opinion, she'd be better off spending the money on the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8G ED IF to replace the slow 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G zoom that came with her D3100. B&H has the 17-55mm for $1, 439.00 which, admittedly, is $342.05 more than their price for a D7000 body only (its shown for $1, 096.95 after a $100.00 Instant Savings from B&H that ends 7-28-2012). A fast, constant aperture zoom will be more useful to her indoors than another camera body. B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com

I don't think it is a good idea to surprise photographers with stuff. She may have some definite ideas about what is a priority in adding the next thing.
A tripod may or may not be on the list of things to upgrade. Here there are variable priorities. More height and/or heft? More compactness? Lightness? Does cross-compatibility (same quick-release plate) with other tripod heads matter? Etc?

Yes… BUT… Going from one entry-level camera to another entry-level model is a waste of time and money. Her photos from the 3100 will look exactly like the ones the 7000 is capable of taking.

Instead of wasting money on a new body, she should buy a new lens or two. Tell us what she likes to shoot and we can recommend lenses for her to buy.

Lenses are more important than the camera body.

Update - Yes, her 50 and 18-55 will work on the 7000. Like I said before don't buy the 7000 - Put that money towards a new lens. For the price of the 7000 you could buy her the 17-55 2.8 DX to replace her 18-55.
