Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera?

I'm trying to convince my parents to let me buy a Nikon D3100 D-SLR camera for $850.00 (includes Nikon D3100, standard lense, 55-200 lense, 8gb memory card, and case) so they want me to come up with some good reasons. I ove photography and I live in a beautiful California area. Can you help me think of reasons or specific things the camera does that are really cool (besides HD video and 14 megapixals)?
