Nikon D3100 Camera for Concerts? - 1

I just recently bought the Nikon D3100 and for years I have just simply taking my Kodak Zi8 to concerts and music festivals to simply just record video for my own recollection but I was thinking the other day if the D3100 is fit for the job? The incredible heat, the lengthy day, having enough memory? I have a 16gb memory card, it works fine. SDHC. But can I take it to a concert and it will last me the whole day? Gates open 11 am, I leave around 9 pm. I don't plan on taking many pictures, but many videos. Maybe when I'm actually there I probably will end up taking many pictures, I don't know… Also the music festivals I attend are one with crowd surfing and mosh pits so I was wondering if the D3100 is sturdy and can take a little bit of extra-force. Do you recommend it? Should I take the Zi8 just in case? Also! With the auto-focus and such will I be able to hear it while recording or will the loud music drown it out?
AND YES THE VENUE I'M GOING TO ALLOWS DSLR'S!

Added (1). I also plan to take snippets of the festival! Songs only, and only the bands I like!

With the plastic body of the D3100 I would be very concerned; semi pro and pro level DSLR have magnesium alloy bodies for a reason. I personally would not bring any DSLR into the general population at a concert with crowd surfing and pits, I know for a fact I would not bring my D7000 which is much more durable.

Battery life is also a concern, per Nikonians [ https://www.nikonians.org/forums/?az=show_topic&forum=312&topic_id=3228&mesg_id=3228 ], the D3100 has a battery which holds about 500 still shots, video with live view and "continuous focus" would drain the battery that much faster. Once you burn through your batteries, the camera just becomes a crick to carry that limits any amounts of fun you can possibly have.

Well the D3100 is not build like a tank but not build like a children play house either. If you are smart it will hold out well.

I do suggest to take with you a nice safe camera bag with nice cushy walls to keep your camera and lens safe. Limit the amount of lenses you take with you and. No don't dive into the mosh pit.seriously.

If you are going to make pictures from the mosh then use a 300mm or so.

Because if you are there lying with a wide lens.expect to be kicked in the nuts. Not that is mosh I get it but worse.expect your camera to be broken.
