Nikon D3000 Self-Timer, How do I turn it on?

So I have the Nikon D3000, and I go to menu, go down to the little wrench, and then select self-timer and make it 10s, then I go to take a picture. And it immediately goes off without the 10s. How do I get the self timer to work?

Press the Fn button (next to the D3000 writing on front of the camera) before you take the shot.
