Nikon D3000 - good camera?

Is the Nikon D3000 a good dslr camera for it's price of around £300?
Any customer reviews? Is the zoom and image quality good? And what about the battery life?
Does anyone know the cheapest I can get it? Maybe in a deal with a case?

You're asking the wrong questions.
If can have lots of zoom, and good image quality if you choose. It can also perform very badly.
The zoom depends on what lens you have attached to it, Nikon's AF-S 85mm f1.4 lens doesn't zoom at all but is one of Nikon's best products.
Image quality is probably 80% down to the skill of the user. You could have a D3x with said 85mm lens and make awful images.
Battery life again depends on what and how you shoot. If you use live view, with flash at high ISO expect the battery to be eaten up. Shoot at lower ISO, with the VF and flash off and you'll increase the battery life.

I think you should go with D3000 Digital SLR Camera body only
