I own a D90… I'm looking forward to buy a 50mm lens. I'm confused between 1.8D and the new 1.8G (which almost twice the price). So is it really worth spending extra? Please suggest and share your experiences if you own these lenses… Thanks!

The G lens has an autofocus motor built into it
the D lens does not

Your D90 has an AF motor, and therefore can autofocus with the D lens. That is what I would get

I have a D90 and the 50mm f/1.8D. That is a classic lens and has been around a long time. It will be perfect for your camera. No need to spend the extra money for the AF-S lens as your camera can autofocus the AF lens.

Nikon claims the glass of the G lens is better than the D version. If you're not too concerned about it, get the D. It will still be well worth it.

I dn't really like the perspective of the 50mm lens, and if you use it wide open the quality is terrible. The big advantage is that at wide open ( 1.8 ) you have a very short depth of field so the subject of your photo stands out better and focusing can be easier.

IMO no it's not worth it. Yes, the 1.8G is better, no it's not twice better.
