Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II AF-S NIKKOR Lens?

I was just wondering i'm looking to buy this lens for the new d7000 that i ordered, but was wondering if it was really worth getting this one over the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR Lens. I will be using it for all sorts of occasions from weddings to sports…

Is it really worth spending the extra 600 bucks to get the version II?

Not really if you're using an APS-C crop camera.

Not really.

Where the II lens excels is it has the new Nano Crystal Coat. This coating excels at low-light sports. You will see more and more Nikkor lenses being produced with this coating.

If you can find a AF-S 70-200 mm f/2.8 at a good price, go for it.

First of all congrats for becoming the owner of d7000 camera. Second, you should know VR II is not Version II. It is Vibration Reduction II.AF means Auto Focus. All ED VR lenses are costly when compared to non ED or non VR lens. The construction of lens and number of elements also will be different between these two.So, if you can spend, go far it. Best of Luck.

The II has a few improvements mainly for full frame shooters. If you anticipate moving to that anytime soon then it makes sense.

That lens will work perfectly for you and in fact, you probably won't notice ANY difference between Vr1 and VR2 versions. If I were you, I'd save the $600 and consider getting a battery grip and a 50mm f/1.8D.

With that said however, the $600 could give you piece of mind and a warranty.though you should also know that these lens are designed to last… They are built like a tank.
