I'm looking for some good quality prime lens mostly for some portraits and street style photos. Which one of nikon 55m f1.8 vs 35 mm f1.8? Would you recommend?

I have a nikon d3100 which is a crop sensor camera.

Idont want to stay with my kit lens cause i'm looking for a lens with wider aperture
thank you

Added (1). SORRY I MEAN THE 50mm NOT 55

I think you mean the 50mm f1.8, not 55mm!

I would recommend the 50mm f1.8 or the 85mm f1.8 for both street & portraiture. 35mm is a little too wide for portraits. For street work 35mm is ok - if you want to get close. But if you want to get candid shots you may want to 'back off' a bit, hence the 85mm recommendation.

I love my 35mm, i generally start as far from the subject as i can, and approach so i get the best composition. With a 50mm, you have to back up, and in some situations that may not be possible. As i said before, i love my 35mm, if i need to get closer, i can, not a big deal. I like having a wider view. Its more of a personal preference

For portraits 50mm is better; for street, if you like being close to your subject, then 35mm, or 28mm is better. But use your kit lens at 35mm and 50mm to see which would suit your style, then go and buy the high aperture lens.
