Nikon 50mm F1.8 VS Nikon 35mm 1.8 or both?

I'm picking up a new D7000 and I'm wondering what lens I should get. I know both are great, and that the 50mm is cheaper. Which one would be better, here is what I intend to do:
Landscapes
Portraits
Candids
Mall Shot
Hang out
So, if I were to only get one, which one would it be? And would it really be worth geting both? I could walk the difference of 15mm.

50mm f1.8 would be better - ideal for portraits & will give you more reach than the 35mm for street work (I use a 50mm or an 85mm f1.8 for street photography).

Either one will work for all of the photography you mentioned except for landscapes. The kit lens would be better for that as 35mm isn't really nearly wide enough.

I'd get a zoom that covers this range, 18-55 or 18-105 since they are more versatile. Toy with that and see which focal length is your favorite and get a lens for that.

Landscapes: 18 mm or shorter, 12 mm is excellent
Portraits: 50 mm f/1.8 or f/1.4
Candid: 24-70 mm f/2.8
Mall Shot: See landscape
Hanging out: 18-200 mm VR
Notice that the 35 mm lens is not mentioned for any of the above subjects. It is what is considered a "normal" lens and rarely used by most photographers

Have you also heard that saying' ''50mm for masses and 35 mm for classes''
Eventually you would be needing both the primes.
