Nikon 50mm 1.8G or 1.8D?

I own a Nikon D5100. I do understand that 1.8G will Auto-focus and 1.8D won't coz of lack of internal focus motor. But the cost difference is a lot. (6k and 12k which is double) Help me out. I take many shots in Manual but then at 50mm auto-focus would be handy at times. Any help? Am planning next lens to be Sigma 70-300mm, but not now.

It's only a 5100. Stick with the gelded lens.

Since the cost does make a difference to you, and you are comfortable with manual focus, go for the D.

Stick with AF-S lenses when using the D5100 if you want auto-focus

I'm not sure what you are confused about. Seems like you know the advantages of both the D and G lens.
But if you are looking at upgrading, say to a D7000 or above in the future, then you will not have to manually focus the D lens forever.

You have all of your facts correct. But the truth is sometimes when you find the perfect shot, you don't have time to manually focus before the moment ends. And sometimes when the lighting isn't so great, it's hard to tell if you focused correctly. Even the green focus indicator dot can't help you that much. It's just better to get the AF-S 1.8D so you can have focus.
Good luck!
P.S. Get the Nikon brand 70-300.It's only like $160, and it's better than the Sigma.

Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens
Rs. 6101
The sharpness and bokeh on this lens are almost as good as (the much costlier) f/1.4 lens. It's also much lighter than the f/1.4. The performance of this lens in low light conditions is really great.
The lens doesn't have an autofocus motor, but even if you have to focus manually it's a good buy.
Best choice having good features, good overall performance and is value for money product. GO with it.
