Alright so my brother does Karate tournaments and I'm trying to find a good camera for his school. I need fast shudder speed to catch the perfect shots during the sparing (fighting) matches. I don't have camera knowledge to really know what to look for. I'm trying to keep the price as low as I can but I'm not looking for something great and expecting to spend just pennies for it. I've seen this camera and it had great reviews but I need to know if this would be good for catching the shots I need or if this is totally not what I want. (Nikon D3200 Digital SLR Camera with 24.2 Megapixels and 18-55mm Lens Included).

The Nikon D3200 does perform well in low light and has a top shutter speed of 1/4000th second (1/500th is fast enough to catch the action), so that is not a problem, but what can be a problem is when shooting in low light, you really need a fast lens (f/2.8 or faster).

This means that you will be spending more for the lens than the cameras in most cases.

The Nikkor AF-S 50 mm f/1.8 lens is fast enough and should work well shooting Karate matches indoors, but you will need to get rather close to the action. You can see how close if you set the 18-55 mm lens at 50 mm and look through the viewfinder.

Here is a sample shot taken indoors using a shutter speed of 1/500th second with the cameras ISO set to 3200. The lens used is a 300 mm f/2.8 lens that costs about $6, 000.So you can see what I mean about some lenses costing more than the camera.html? Sort=3&o=13

For now, experiment using the 18-55 mm lens and see if the AF-S 50 mm f/1.8 lens will do the job for you focal length wise. It is rather inexpensive when compared to other fast lenses ($225).

Overall Review
With Nikon 3200, the multinational camera giant has nearly doubled the image capturing resolution of the predecessor, the 24 megapixel Nikon 3200, after its launch became the DX body in Nikon DSLR with the highest resolution. For an entry level offering, this indeed is a very bold statement and in fact, it becomes one which will put Nikon D3200 DSLR directly in the top of budget DSLR mounts, at least such will be the case when discussing about resolution.

Lens and Image Stabilization
Nikon D3200 is typically shipped with the AF-S Nikkor DX 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 G VR Kit lens in the box. Here, VR stands for Vibration Reduction which is Nikon's lens based image stabilisation system.

Sensors
Nikon D3200's 24 megapixel CMOS sensor produces images with a maximum size of 6016x4000 pixels. This is a major upgrade with an extra 10 megapixels over its predecessor and makes the D3200 the highest resolution DX body in the Nikon Range.

Pros
- Extremely high resolution
- Full 1080p HD video, external mic input
- Faster continuous shooting than D3100

I think you should go for this camera.
