My pictures arent the right format/document?

I have a Nikon D3000 and when i upload my pictures to photoshop or even just my computer, the photos can't be viewed because they're not the right format or document. I've already formatted my sd card on my camera and I've retaken my pictures and they still won't show. What do I do?

Change your camera from raw to jpeg

When you format your card, you are deleting everything on it and refreshing the card so it is ready for your next shoot

When you talk about a file format, your options on the D3000 are either some variant of a JPEG file or RAW. If you shoot in RAW, you need to have a program that can process those RAW files.

Most of us who shoot in RAW use Lightroom to batch process our RAW images, since they have the most image data (the highest resolution)

Before you format your card again, use your computer skills to copy all the image files from your memory card to your computer. Once they are safely on your computer, you can format the card using the format feature in the camera.

Using your file manager, look at the image files you copied to your computer. If they are NEF files (Nikon's RAW file type) this is why you may not be able to see your images on the computer, although I can view RAW files using Windows Live Photo Gallery

If you have a modern version of Photoshop, then it should open Nikon D3000 RAWs

Just make sure you are using the most recent version of Adobe Camera RAW.

If you don't have a modern version of photoshop or a version of Camera RAW which supports your camera, then get the free Adobe DNG converter, convert your RAWs to DNG, then open in Photsohop.
