My Nikon D70s won't take pictures?
Every time I try to take a picture, it makes a small clicking sound, but never actually takes a picture. When I look through it, I see "Err" and it is very dark. I didn't drop it or anything, and I have no idea what to do.
"Err" on my D90 means I have to reseat the lens. Try that.
It sounds like your mirror is stuck in the up position or you need to properly attach your lens. If you are using a lens with an aperture ring, turn it to the smallest aperture.
If the mirror is stuck, fixing the issue will cost more than it the camera is worth.
The lens aperture not being set correctly is a FEE error, not ERR which is more serious.
There was a service advisory on the D70 that some cameras would lock up completely and the memory active light would blink, but I don't think this applied to the D70s, but at any rate if you are getting an ERR then that is not the problem (I did have that problem with my D70 though).
Have you tried another lens, make sure the battery is charged, etc. That would narrow the problem down. You might also want to try a master reset switch on the bottom of the camera.
The reset switch is a little button that you need a paper clip to access, and is located in the upper right hand corner on the bottom when you tilt the camera so you are looking at the bottom and the lens is pointing up.
