My Nikon camera is not focusing properly? - 1
I have Nikon D40 and I have the normal set of lens on it. You know how when you half-way push the button to take a picture, it focuses? Yeah, well, mine's not doing that. It's not even a portrait-style lens (I have one but this one is not it), and it's acting like one. How can I fix this? Did something happen with the settings?
Is the lens you are using an auto focus lens? Remember the Nikon D40 is a manual focus camera. It does not have a auto focus motor to it.So, if the lens you are using is not an auto focus lens, then you have to manually focus on your subject.
Now, if the lens you are using has a switch A/M focus and it always focus before, maybe the lens got knocked into manual focus.
Yeah, you probably changed a menu setting. See page 38 in your manual and learn how to do the 2-button reset. Press and hold the "info" and "magnify" buttons for a few seconds.
Or, just go to the focus mode in the menu and make sure that it's not set on "M" for manual focus. The default setting is AF-A, but you would probably like AF-S just fine.AF-C is a little tricky. It will focus constantly, so there's no "beep" to confirm focus.
The Nikon D40 is not a "manual focus" camera, although it does not have an autofocus motor. (It supports autofocus lenses that have motors built in.) You don't say whether you've ever successfully autofocused with this lens before, or whether it's the kit lens, so it's somewhat hard to know exactly what your problem is. First, you need to determine whether there's a "A/M" switch on the lens. If it's there, make sure it's set to "A". If that doesn't solve your problem, check the camera's menu settings. (Your manual should help there.)
Otherwise, you're probably stuck with manual focus.
