Matrix metering and Speedlights?

I heard matrix metering is good fo Nikon CLS or flash photography. How is that? I mostly use spot metering on my D7000.

The matrix meter mode will "see" the whole scene so may be able to produce better exposures when using the Nikon CLS system

I only use the spot meter when using extreme wide angle zoom lenses like the 14-24 mm or 12-24 mm lenses.

In theory it is not a bad idea, but if you really want to take control of the scene, meter what you want with the spotmeter or (more likely) the center-weighted meter and set the exposure manually. If you use TTL on your flash then, it just measures the light that bounces back to the sensor. I don't think the meter pattern really matters if you have set the exposure manually. You can add or subtract flash once you evaluate the results in the camera monitor.
