Macro lens/attatchment for nikon D90?

I'm really interested in a macro attatchment for my family's Nikon D90. I've heard someone talking about a macro attatchment. And others about a lens. Are there two separate things, like can you just get an attatchement to put on like, an 18-55 mm lens?

And if that does not exist, can anyone tell me the model number for the lens? (Google just confused me)

The close-up filters that you screw onto the front of your lens are a cheap alternative, but are not really macro. If you want real macro you will need to buy a dedicated macro lens for the camera. They cost several hundred dollars.

Why would you use Google to search for a lens for your camera? Just go to the Nikon website!

What you have in mind are close-up lenses. These are not true macro lenses, but basically work like a magnifying glass that is screwed on top of your lens. They are dirt cheap compared to true macro lenses, so expect not to get much - they're ok to find out if you're into macro stuff though.

This looks like a decent one, and it will fit on your lens:

(the item is sold out but there's a used one in excellent condition offered on that page for $16)

Stay away from sets of +1, +2 and +4 diopter lenses - they are of horrible quality and you'll probably only use the +2 one of them anyway.

Focusing will be extremely difficult with them though, and you absolutely need a tripod.

I think you should go with Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Medium Telephoto Macro Lens for Nikon SLR Cameras

Compact and lightweight medium telephoto macro lens.
Optimized image quality for Digital SLR cameras. Super Multi Layer (SML) coating reduces the ghost caused by reflections
Maximum magnification of 1:1
Focus Limiter Switch that limits the AF range so improving the speed and accuracy of auto focus
Dual Focus (DF) system that is designed to make the lens easy to hold during auto focusing
