Light graffiti Nikon D5000- How do you set the shutter speed to bulb?
I'm trying to do light graffiti. I want to use my mom's camera, which is a Nikon D5000. I'm a beginner, so I don't know anything about cameras, so I need to know step by step how to change the settings! Haha. Like i've searched so many things but like it says to change to "bulb setting" and i have no clue how to do that. And also I have tried to turn the dial on the manual/shutter setting and i did some light graffiti, but i have NO CLUE what the numbers mean. And i think i screwed up the whole setting on the camera.
& we have a tripod and everything. I want to do light graffiti So BADLY!
detailed instructions please.
*thanks in advance!*
Do this at night in an area where there's little or no ambient light
Place the camera on a tripod.
Use a remote shutter release to lock the shutter open in the bulb mode while you write your graffiti
Look on pages 80 and 84 of your cameras user manual to learn how to find bulb on your D5000
Actually there's an easier way.
I did this with my Rebel XS on a tripod in my office at night. I set the camera on it's self timer for
10-seconds, got myself into position and when the shutter opened I wrote. The shutter was only open for 5-seconds but that's plenty of time for what I did.
Understand also that the camera will need some light on an object to focus for the spot where you are going to be.
I wrote this with a small flash light. With that flashlight I lit the an object in my office chair and focused. After pressing the shutter release I stepped to the chair, removed the object, sat down and when the shutter opened I wrote.
You'll probably need several tries to make this work - the one above I think was my 7th or 8th try at getting the writing the correct size for the camera's frame of view.
It's fun… Good luck.
