Is the Nikon D3200 DSLR camera a good investment?
Is the price going to drop soon? Is there a cheaper option for a better quality? Is the quality of the camera worth it?
All dSLR's are good, all brands and all models. They are all basically the same. If you are after great picture quality, learn photography. The camera is only a tool. It's your skill that mostly affects how the picture looks.
Cameras aren't good for investment. If you are good in using them and you use them a lot, they get worn fast, will show it, and the price goes down. Even when you don't use it a lot, and even if you somehow keep it in mint condition, it's value will depreciate in just half a year by more than a third. Blame that on programmed obsolescence. Technological gadgets get old in six months. There's always something new around the corner.
When you buy a camera especially a dSLR, you don't think of what you'll get from it when you sell it. What's important is you get lots of great pictures with it whether to earn money from it or for your shooting pleasure. On the balance sheet, for pros, the D3200 is at the low end of the price range so it shouldn't set you back down. For leisure, it will do if you know exactly how to use it.
It will give you more quality than you'll typically need, but then most brands will do the same. What you might think about though is the serviceability of a Nikon camera. As long as it works, your Nikon is a great camera but if you drop it or it needs a new battery cover, it will have be sent to one of 20 Nikon "factory" centers in the US. Nikon banned the sale of repair parts last summer for the 1st time ever, eliminating over 200 independent repair shops. Now you'll have to pay factory prices and wait several weeks to get your repaired camera back. More and more pros are shifting to Canon who doesn't have these problems.
