Is Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Lens compatible with Nikon D5100?
I have a Nikon D5100 with 18-55mm kit lense n i'm planning to upgrade to SIGMA 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM, is that lense compatible with my camera? As NIKON D5100 DOES NOT HAVE A FOCUS MOTOR BUILT IN!
I'm new to photography so i do not understand d terms like OS n HSM
Please anyone help me as i wish to upgrade soon. Will sigma give me good photo n Video quality?
URGENT Help NEEDED!
Yes - HSM means that the lens is motorised.
However, this isn't an upgrade. The 18-200mm is a big, heavy lens that will be really uncomfortable hanging around your neck. You'd be better off with a 55-200 or 55-300mm to supplement your existing lens - you could always put the lens you aren't using in your pocket.
It will autofocus. In Sigma-speak:
OS: Optical stabilization
HSM: Hypersonic motor
However, the Sigma and Tamron 18-200mm lenses are reputed to not be as good as the Nikon 18-200mm. Even the Nikon will be showing some of its compromises when viewed at 16 MP.
