Is manfrotto mkc3-h01 a good tripod for a beginner or armature photographer?

My brothers birthday is due on the 2nd January and i found it on amazon and it seems like a good tripod from the reviews,

Are there any other good tripods in the same price range?
And he uses a Nikon D5100.

Hahnel Triad 30 Lite^^

Most people only buy a tripod once in their life and with that in mind, you need one that will hold at least 7 kg and if you are planning on shooting video, you really need a fluid head for creating smooth pans.
The head on this tripod is a modified ball head which makes panning problematic
You need a head like the Manfrotto 701HDV Professional Mini Fluid Video Head. The head alone costs£75 on Amazon UK
As with most things photographic, you have to save your pennies and by for quality and precision rather on price.

If you don't want to spend umpteen thousands of dollars like photoace always suggests, the Manfrotto is a decent tripod. It will easily support a D5100 with any mid-grade or lower lens. It is not a modified ball head, it IS a ball head with pistol grip.
It is light enough to actually carry around and use, and sturdy enough for most amateur uses.
