Is class 6 good enough?

I have a Nikon d5000 DSLR with a Transcend class 6 8gb memory card. Is it fast enough or do I need a class 10 memory card.

If you're talking HD video it will be slow. It'll record okay and the camera won't stop recording but it will be slower. Class 10, the fastest currently available won't be slow - I know because I use them and my video is recorded almost before I know it's happening.

Pictures no problem. Videos, not enough. Get a 10.

To add on to what Jim said… Transcend and PNY brand memory cards are like Kodak/GE/ Vivitar cameras… They have a very high failure rate. I prefer Sandisk, Kingston, and Dane Electric brand cards.
BUT, no matter what brand you use, make sure that you practice good memory card management.
Remember, cameras are NOT a permanent storage device. Memory cards can get corrupted and/or fail.
Here is the work flow I follow:
1) Format the memory card with the camera before using it for the first time
2) Take photos/video
3)Download the memory card content to your computer using a USB card reader if the computer does not have a built-in card reader
4)Verify the transfer was a success
5)Back up the files on your computer to another hard drive (or CDs)
6)Format the memory card with your camera (and not with the computer)
Do this at the end of every day that you take photos/video
