If you simply purchase the d90 body, will you still get good shots, or are the additional lenses needed for good images?

Try this experiment: Blindfold yourself and then try describing what you see. A camera without a lens is like being blindfolded. No lens = no picture. In fact, some cameras won't even let you release the shutter if there's no lens attached.

The only exception I can think of is a pinhole camera and if you want to be technical the pinhole acts as a lens of sorts.

So unless you just want a fancy, expensive paperweight buy the camera with a lens.

You definitely need a lens. Without a lens, there's no picture. Nothing to focus the picture so all the camera sensor sees is a blur of light. Different lenses will give you different types of pictures (depending on the lens: telephoto = zoom, macro/micro = close-up, fixed = no zoom (good for portraits. But you NEED a lens. No matter what.

Cameras do not work without lenses.

If you do not understand something incredibly simple like this, you will never figure out how to use a complicated camera like a DSLR.

The camera won't take a picture without a lens attached, if that is what you mean. The body without a lens may or may not be a good thing to buy. It depends on whether you already have good compatible lenses, or if you have plans to buy a different lens than the one bundled in the kit. If you don't have those, the 18-105mm VR that is typically in a D90 kit is reputed to be a good one, and the kit typically costs less than buying them separately.

The D90 is great but without a lens, it's useless.
