I was wondering what the best way to clean the lens of a Nikon D3000 is?

I got my first DSLR about a month ago so I'm still a novice in operating and maintaining them. I have a lens cap on it when it is not in use, but I still noticed a little bit of dust on the lens. I didn't want to touch it with just anything because I don't want to damage it, so i was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to use to clean the lens without damaging it?

I've seen several different things mentioned online like special cloths and something called compressed air which blows it off. I was wondering if the compressed air would be the best option, and if anyone knows how much it costs or where it is sold?

Compressed air is just about the worst thing to use, too cold, condensation. For the glass parts of the lens you can use a microfiber cloth (photography stores, opticians) or a lens pen (photography stores). For anywhere on your camera you can use a rocket blower.

A soft Camel hair brush is an essential tool for any aspiring young photographer, followed closely behind is a small piece of "Surgical Lint"
Next an aerosol spray can of compressed air (many large computer shops will have them, as they are also recommended for cleaning inside a computer case.)
Keep all in a sealed plastic bag.

… My procedure for cleaning lenz is as follows:-
… Use a quick spray or two to get rid of all large bits of dust Etc.--- then using the brush (gently), followed by the lint cloth.
… You are wise not to touch the lenz- Especially not with your fingers as this will deposit body oils on the lens.

I use a microfiber lens cloth for cleaning. But, I agree, a brush is a good idea. I carry a large size women's makeup brush in my bag, very handy for quick, all over dustoffs after a shoot.
