I have a Nikon D3100?

I love the thing very much.
Here are a couple of my questions though.
1: Is it possible to keep the timer from coming on? Every time I turn on the camera to any picture mode, the timer goes from 30 seconds to 0 and after that it takes the shot.
I feel like I'm always rushed to take a picture.

2: How do I turn on "rule of thirds"?
(I know it's the "info" button, but it becomes a 4 by 4 diagram, but a 3 by 3 diagram.

1. Search up "timer" in your user manual. It should be a fairly easy setting to change.

2. Unfortunately, a camera only gives you on grid and not multiple ones you can choose from.
