Nikon SLR Cameras

I can't decide between Nikon D5100 and Canon EOS 60D?

I know that the 60D is kinda old and i was wondering if it's still worth it…
so if you have both of them and you can give me your opinion, that would be great

If you pop into a camera store and ask for a demonstration of both cameras… That will sort your dilemma out… You will prefer one camera more after handling them both.

Oh Oh

you are going to have to decide on whether you will become a Canon or Nikon person.

Most photographers are obsessed by Nikon so I would get a Canon just because I'm obstinate

It's probably rare to find a 60D in a camera store. The D5100 having been replaced not long ago, should be easier to find. Between the two, I would take the D5100 based on the fact that the image sensor is a superior Sony Exmor type.

The D5100 prices has come down a bit recently, but the 60D is way cheaper than when it was new. So that's something to consider.

But honestly, we don't live in a Canon and Nikon world anymore. They are the Honda and Toyota of the camera world. Yes they sell the most, but they don't even try anymore. Their cameras are bland, they offer no big innovations, and each update brings extra megapixels that nobody was asking for.

Look to Sony Alpha and Pentax for a better bang for the buck. Sony's A57, A58 and A65. Also look at the K 30 and K 50 from Pentax.

If you want something more compact than a dSLR with dSLR image quality, look at Sony NEX line, like the NEX 5R and upcoming NEX 5T. Also look at Fuji's X M1 and the soon to be released X A1. From Samsung the NX 300 and from Panasonic the GF6 and GX7. You have more research to do, good luck.

Actually, if you know exactly what you are doing, either will do. Picture quality will be the same whatever dSLR you choose because it highly depends on your skill as a photographer. The camera is only a tool.

I personally like the 60D as that is what I shoot with!

The swivel LCD screen is nice for when you have to lay the camera on the ground or lift it above your head. It also shoots 18 megapixels as opposed to the 16 of the D5100.

Still, it'd doubtful you could go wrong with either body. I'd get the best deal you can on the body and spend more on the lenses. To me, the lenses make the difference.

I'd go for the 650D over both. The 600D (T3i) has the same sensor and articulating screen as the 60D, and a few advantages too, although the body isn't quite as rugged. A 600D with kit lens is also going for only $500 right now.
