How to use self timer in photography?

I have a Nikon D60 camera and I want to take some self portraits but don't know how to activate self timer, although I have set it in custom setting menu.

There's a dial where you click it it says 10s someting

Look on page 55 of your user manual

Remember to pre-focus where you will be when the shutter releases. If you don't the lens will auto-focus somewhere behind you and you will be out of focus
