How to take a picture where the person is clear and so is the background?
I always take pictures where I focus in on the subject and the background is blurred, but now i need to have the person in focus and the background clear aswell, i have a nikon d70 slr… What should i do to be able to achieve this?
You want a high f stop, go into aperture priority mode on your camera and put your aperture to f/25 or higher, that way you have a less shallow depth of field and can get more in focus.
Select a small aperture (i.e., f/8-f/11 should suffice). This is achieved in one of your AE modes, P, S, or A, as well as manually in M (adherence to meter will be required in (M)anual mode for correct exposure). To keep things simple, just use A (for aperture priority). A small aperture keeps more in focus. Also, a wide focal length helps as well, 28-35mm equivalent (17-24mm on your camera) should do well, just don't get too close to the subject. A shorter focal length tends to hold greater depth of field regardless of distance compared to one which is longer. Be advised that using a smaller aperture will result in a slower shutter speed, requiring the use of camera support (i.e., tripod), and/or increase in noise if an increase in ISO is desired to maintain a hand holdable shutter speed.
F11-45 will do,
using a long focal lenght like say 200mm, shoot the person from a distance and they and the BG will be sharp
using a short focal lenght like say 18mm have the person 3 feet from the lens and them and the bg will be sharp
