How to take a DSLR camera and2 lenses through airport security?
I have a Nikon d5100, with an 18-55mm lens and a 55-300mm lens that I'm taking with me. I also have a Nikon camera bag and I was wondering how I do it. Do I take the lens out and set them on the bin? Or for the 55-300, do I takeit out of the Baggie? I also read that I have to take the battery and SD card out of th bag, and put it in a ziplock bag. How do I make it quick and easy, as I'm traveling with other people.
Just leave it all in the camera bag and either put it directly on the belt or in a bin, doesn't really matter. You don't need to take the battery out or anything like that. I take my Dslr through all the time and have never been flagged.
I've got a D50 with the same lenses and have never had a problem with security BUT I've only dealt with Canadian, British, Irish and Cuban airport security not the American TSA. I've never taken the battery or SD card out for travelling and security and customs have never given the camera a second look. I usually travel down south with 2 cameras an underwater one and my D50 and have never had any problems.
BTW I hope you got the VR version of the 55-300 it helps to keep the image stable.
