How to see what I record on my Nikon live on my MacBook?

I was wondering if there's a way i can use my Nikon D3100 instead of the camera in my MacBook to work with iMovie? Or is there any other program i could use to record and see "live" on my laptop what i'm recording?
I'd be really grateful if someone could help me!

It's called tethered shooting, knowing that and a quick google should get you any of the half a dozen solutions for that.
